Schools to provide performance updates to parents under new Bill

Schools are to be instructed to provide performance updates to parents regarding their students under a new Education (Parent and Student Charter) Bill, which is due to be published in the coming weeks. The Bill aims to improve communication between schools and parents, including the provision of updates to parents regarding the school’s performance in teaching and learning, and any gaps or deficiencies therein.

The Bill also provides greater powers to the Ombudsman for Children to investigate complaints regarding schools even when those complaints are under consideration, and the Minister will be able to compel schools to follow the Ombudsman’s recommendations.
